Course Detail

The London Training programme prepares student guides for the Institute of Tourist Guiding examinations.

Students study and are assessed on the following:

  • Background knowledge of the UK
  • In-depth London knowledge
  • Regional knowledge which covers sites frequently visited from London in a day


Students study and are assessed on the following: Background knowledge of the UK, in-depth London knowledge, and regional knowledge which covers sites frequently visited from London in a day. Practical training and assessment take place in the National Gallery, the British Museum, Westminster Abbey, St Paul's Cathedral, the Tower of London, on a City of London walk and on a panoramic coach tour. Students are also required to write a 3,000-word Tour Planning Project.

On passing these written and practical examinations the guide is awarded a Blue Badge, which is the industry's recognised symbol of professionalism in tourist guiding.
