The Institute sets and assesses examinations for the Tourist Guide training courses it accredits.

Participants on Institute-accredited training courses must pass all elements of the Institute examinations at the relevant level before they receive their badges and certificates.

Blue Badge course candidates are entitled to three consecutive attempts at their examinations (primary and two re-sits)  to be completed within 48 months of enrolment date.

Green Badge course candidates are entitled to two consecutive attempts at their examinations (primary and one re-sit) to be completed within 24 months of the first examination after the end of the relevant training programme.

White Badge course candidates are entitled to two consecutive attempts (primary and one re-sit) at their examinations to be completed within 12 months of the first examination after the end of the relevant training programme.
