The Institute sets and assesses examinations for the Tourist Guide training courses it accredits.

Participants on Institute-accredited training courses must pass all elements of the Institute examinations at the relevant level before they receive their badges and certificates.

Blue Badge Guide candidates at are entitled to three consecutive attempts (first and two re-sits) at their examinations to be completed within 36 months from the end of their training course.

Green and White Badge candidates are entitled to two consecutive attempts (first and one re-sit) at their examinations to be completed within 24 months from the end of their training course.
