Bridgewater Canal in Salford

Green Badge Guide course

The course has been accredited by the Institute of Tourist Guiding and is primarily aimed at training volunteers already engaged in leading guided walks of the Bridgewater Canal in Salford to become professionally qualified and registered Green Badge Tourist Guides.

It is being funded by Heritage Lottery and Salford City Council funding secured by Course Provider Est. 1761. For more information about Est. 1761, please see their website http://www.est1761.org/

They are covering the cost of training for all students, including visits to sites, course learning materials, and a two-day Communications Seminar on practical presentation skills for tourist guides, which will take place in January 2019.

Preference for places will be given to those living in the area who are already engaged as volunteers on a project delivered by Est. 1761.  Where applicants are existing (and participating) Bridgewater Volunteers at 1st June 2018, the cost of the Institute of Tourist Guiding registration and examination fees will be borne by Est. 1761.

Others, including existing Blue and Green Badge Tourist Guides, may also apply, but will be required to pay Institute of Tourist Guiding registration and examination fees as given in the Prospectus.

Programme Duration:  After an Introductory Day in July 2018, during the summer months students are required to undertake personal familiarisation visits throughout the area under study.  The main programme will then run between November 2018 and March 2019, with examinations provisionally planned for April 2019.
